As you come to the doors of the castle, marble statues of Isolt and James can be seen on either side of the door. The Entrance Hall is circular room with a glass cupola. A balcony one floor above the ground circles the room where the older students sit to watch the sorting. In the empty space are four large wooden carvings; the Horned Serpent, the panther Wampus, the Thunderbird, and the Pukwudgie. These are the four houses.
The first years step onto the Gordian Knot that is found in the middle of the stone floor. When the student steps on the knot, one of the wooden carvings will react if they want the student into their house or not. The Horned Serpent has a crystal on its forehead that will light up, the Thunderbird will beat its wings, the Wampus will roar, and the Pukwudgie will raise an arrow.
After the sorting is complete, the students will move off to the Grand Hall for their Welcoming Feast. Off of the Entrance Hall, you will find Corridors, Secret Passageways, and Empty Classrooms for some staff and student fun.
